Prudential Regulation of Superannuation
==================================
On 28 October 2002 the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Senator Coonan,
announced a package of reforms designed to strengthen the prudential regulation of superannuation in Australia.

The reforms include a requirement for all trustees of APRA-regulated superannuation funds to obtain a superannuation trustee licence (STL), and for all superannuation funds to be registered with APRA prior to accepting contributions.

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has outlined the criteria superannuation funds have to satisfy to gain a license under its compulsory new standards for industry.

Unregistered business names

Queensland traders operating without a registered business name face fines of up to $3000 under a Bill introduced to Parliament by the Fair Trading Minister .

Other changes include:
Protections for consumers against shonky door-to-door traders carrying out emergency repairs; and
Increasing the monetary threshold at which a door-to-door salesman must provide a written contract from $50 to $75.

Emergency repairers will be required to:
provide consumers with written contracts;
produce identification and state the purpose of their call; and
not engage in harassing or coercive behaviour.
